Is It Time To Upgrade Your AC?

The weather outside is finally looking up! The sun is shining, birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and best of all, it is finally warm! Spring has sprung, and though it might seem early still, now is the best time to give your old air conditioner an appraisal before the warm weather turns hot! Here are a few AC pro tips to help you get the most out of your air conditioner this year:
SEER
Your unit’s Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) is a system of rating the efficiency of a cooling system. It is calculated by dividing the cooling capacity of a continuously operating system by the watts of power consumed. The higher the SEER, the less it will cost to operate your system.
Many older units have a SEER as low as 5 or 6, meaning they are characterized by low efficiency and high cost to operate. All of the cooling systems available from AC world meet or exceed the minimum Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating of 13, so if you’re currently paying too much to crank your AC, it might be time for an upgrade.
Heat Pump
Old school air conditioners use a refrigerant approach to cooling, meaning they force cool outside air which is then pumped inside. Though effective, this method is not efficient - it takes a huge amount of energy to cool a space in this manner, making it quite a costly option.
The alternative is the heat pump approach, as with the ductless mini split air conditioner. Rather than forcing cold air into your home, these systems suck the hot air out. This technology is what makes these units a perfect solution for both cooling and heating, all while saving you money.
Environmental Footprint
Old appliances are notoriously harmful to the environment. Unlike new heat pump style AC units, the relative inefficiency of older systems wastes money as well as precious energy and resources. Upgrading to a new AC system from AC World will help contribute to the movement away from the use of the refrigerant Hydrochlorofluorocarbon (R-22) in favor of the more environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant.
If you consider all of the criteria of your old AC regarding its performance and value, you may find you’ll be saving money as well as the environment by investing in a new system. If you decide it would make the most sense to upgrade to a new cooling system, shop wholesale at AC World today!
