Missouri Group Donates Air Conditioners to Needy Families

In the sweltering summer months in much of the world, a lack of home air conditioning is more than just an inconvenience—it’s a hazard. Research has proven that households without air conditioning are more susceptible than those with AC units to illness, insomnia, dehydration, and heatstroke during hot and humid weather. Families in hot climates without the means to acquire an AC unit are in a tight spot in the summer.
That’s why the East Missouri Action Agency (EMAA) has striven to help out low-income or otherwise vulnerable households this summer. The EMAA will be distributing fifty window air conditioners free of charge in the coming days to Ameren Missouri customers who have low incomes or are elderly.
The act of charity is a part of Ameren Missouri’s Air Conditioner Giveaway Program. EMAA community services director Keri McCrorey explained, “We have people begin calling us around April who know they’re going to need an air conditioner. Maybe the air conditioner gave out last year or for whatever the reason might be. We would like people to give us a call or come in and see us about the air conditioners. We want to make sure we get them all distributed to the people who need them the most.”
Ameren Missouri CEO and president Michael Moehn says his company has had a successful working relationship in ensuring that those with the greatest need receive AC units. “Our Air Conditioner Giveaway Program focuses on helping ensure our most vulnerable customers are safe during the hot summer months,” Moehn said. “We are proud to support the EMAA which does an outstanding job distributing the air conditioners throughout southeastern Missouri—keeping people and families safe during the hot summer months.”
The air conditioner giveaway gesture is a good-natured one—and, fortunately, it is not the only group working to make sure those in need stay safe and comfortable during summer. The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland, Oregon (MSSP) has a similar program. MSSP has a program called “Summer Comfort” which, through private donations and grants, purchases new air conditioners for individuals suffering from multiple sclerosis in Oregon and southwestern Washington. There are plenty of good people out there, helping to reduce the toll heat takes on the nation’s poor, elderly, and infirm this summer.
No home should be without an AC this sweltering summer. AC World is on hand for your personal and business AC needs.
