Air Conditioning in Wythe Schools

The issue of making sure adequate air conditioning is in schools only seems to be getting more serious throughout the country. Children need to learn. They also need conditions that are conducive to learning. The latest battleground is Wythe. Consider a recent article for SWVA Today titled “ Air conditioners to be added to Wythe schools.”
Millie Rothrock of SWVA Today writes, “School is going to be a lot cooler in the fall. Wythe County School Superintendent Jeff Perry plans to install portable air conditioners in some classrooms without air conditioning. This past autumn, the school system experimented with large air conditioning units at Spiller Elementary School that blew cool air into the hallways, but decided to go with the smaller units. The large, rented units were loud and the cooling was not uniform: near the unit, the air was very cold, while away from the unit, the air was more comfortable, school personnel said. ‘We will attempt to place individual units within a limited number of classrooms this fall,’ Perry said. ‘These are individual units that are about 3-foot square and are mobile. They vent out a window with duct work but remain on the floor. It will cool the classrooms and provide a better learning environment.’ There is money budgeted in next year’s budget for the units. In addition, the school system may be able to use leftover money from this year’s budget to help purchase more units. The county schools that do not have air conditioning are: George Wythe High School, Fort Chiswell High School, Speedwell Elementary School, Scott Memorial Middle School, the Wythe County Technology Center and the older section of Spiller. Temperatures in rooms without air conditioning can reach temperatures into the 90s. That is too hot for students and teachers to be comfortable and is far from ideal for learning, the school superintendent said.”
If you are looking for portable air conditioners, we’ve got you covered at AC World. Our ductless mini split air conditioner is a cost effective alternative to central air conditioning. Yes, it is slightly more than the typically wall or window air conditioner, but the minor additional cost is easily and quickly recouped in energy savings and home security. For example, since the compressor sits on the outside, the ductless mini split air conditioner is very quiet and efficient. Furthermore, they avoid the energy losses associated with the ductwork of central forced air systems.
Whatever portable air conditioner needs you might have, look no further than our team at AC World!
