Getting ready for summer

If you have a home or are a landlord, there are a number of things that you can do to ensure that your home or building is prepared for the summer. While the summer is often a relaxing and fun time, the heat and weather of the season can bring their own issues with them as well. The biggest problem for many at this time is the cost of electricity to run air conditioning, and the weather. This article will discuss some things that you can do to mitigate these problems.
Get your roof inspected before any major storms, especially if you live in areas where hurricanes or tornados are known to occur. Check insulation around your windows and doors so that cool air from your AC system doesn’t leak out.
AC World has a sale on Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioners going on now. They are great products that you can install yourself if you need a new air conditioning system. They are often cheaper than other AC systems as well. Even better, you will have to worry less about changing those annoying filters too.
Make sure bathroom exhaust fans are run during showers in the summer. This can be instrumental in the prevention of mold and mildew that buildup which often occurs during the warm and humid months.
Consider switching to compact fluorescent (CFL) lightbulbs. Save electricity and reduce the heat output from your lighting, which can actually amount to a lot.
Clean your dryer vents. This may not seem like a big deal when they are blocked by lint or debris, running the dryer can contribute to heating up the whole house. Even when you have cleaned your vents try to use dryer and other heat generating appliances after the sun goes down to reduce your cooling load when it is hottest.
I hope that some of these ideas will help you as it gets hotter this year. Always remember to drink water and wear sunscreen when you go outside, no matter what you are doing during the summer!
