Canada was the coldest place on earth on Monday with a chilly minimum of -46.4 degrees recorded. Despite the heat in WA, the mercury did not get close to Australia's hottest December day on record of 49.5 degrees, recorded at Birdsville, Queensland in 1972. Across Australia on Monday, Perth was the hottest capital city, reaching a maximum of 41.6 degrees, making it the city's second hottest day of the year. Darwin [31.4], and Adelaide [28.4] were the next hottest capital cities, while Thredbo Village recorded the country's coldest temperature of 1 degree.”
